CHINESE New Year was celebrated at The Angela Grace Care Home with a virtual cruise to China where there was an abundance of food, lanterns, dragons and tai chi on board
Residents, relatives and staff spent last week preparing for the big cruise to China with plenty of arts and craft sessions making lanterns, a Chinese dragon and colourful decorations. This was followed by a Chinese tea party with fortune cookies. Residents also tested their fine motor skills, learning how to pick up items with chopsticks!
On the day the ship docked in China, residents watched ‘Wild China’ – a documentary detailing the history and beautiful sights of China as well learning lots of exciting facts with a Chinese Trivia game.
The chefs prepared a Chinese lunch, with dishes including noodles, sweet and sour chicken with rice and tapioca in sweet coconut milk.
After lunch residents were treated to a food tasting session, allowing them to try traditional Chinese snacks. This was followed by an armchair tai chi class which helps to reduce stress and improve posture and balance.
All in all, residents, staff and visitors had an eventful day and it was great to see the residents learning about a completely different culture.
